Posters played a major role in last week’s Democratic National Convention—both inside and in the streets. While some street posters echoed demands heard outside, such as demanding reproductive rights and immigrant rights—the elephant at the convention was the U.S. supported war in Gaza. No Palestinian American speaker was allowed to address the convention, despite repeated requests from both delegates committed to Kamala Harris and uncommitted delegates.
When members of the Florida delegation unfurled a “Stop Arming Israel” banner, other members of the same delegation used “We [heart] Joe” signs to block the banner from convention and television viewers. Some even hit the banner and the people holding it with the “We love Joe” signs while the ushers and other delegates did nothing!
The ongoing war on Gaza is made possible by a continuous flow of U.S. weapons. This is not self-defense, but ethnic cleansing. It is genocide before our eyes. CSPG’s Poster of the Week features one of the posters carried during the protests outside the DNC, linking two life and death issues.
